Dr Nils treated a 41 year old male patient who was experiencing progressive numbness in the arms and legs accompanied by headache and nausea. The patient found that his cervical spine range of motion was limited, after stretching he felt a sensation of numbness in his entire body, motor function was however not affected. Dr Nils conducted an MRI scan which showed a large cervical myelopathy in vertebrae C6 and C7.

The patient had been referred to Dr Nils from another facility where he had been misdiagnosed with the recommendation of anterior cervical discectomy and fusion in C5-C6 and C6-C7.

After a cervical CT scan at Valiant Clinic & Hospital showed evidence of ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL), Dr Nils performed an anterior microsurgical decompression and corpectomy in the C6 vertebrae with implantation of an expandable cervical cage and anterior plate from C5 to C7. After the operation the patient reported that all the initial symptoms had disappeared completely.
