World Osteoporosis Day

World Osteoporosis Day – 20th October

Dr. Haroon Iqbal Khan
Consultant Rheumatologist
Osteoporosis is a disease that weakens bones and heightens your risk for unexpected bone fractures. The risk for this disease increases with age, and it can go undiagnosed for decades. Postmenopausal women and those over the age of 50 are especially prone to this condition. Smoking, drinking and a lack of physical activity along with long term calcium and vitamin D deficiency can greatly also increase your osteoporosis risk. Frequent bone fractures, lower back pain and even gradual loss of height are all symptoms worth watching out for. World Osteoporosis Day aims to increase osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
