Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) refers to a group of hereditary conditions that impact the peripheral nerves, which are responsible for movement and motor coordination. CMT symptoms appear early on in life, and include muscle weakness and numbness in the extremities, uncomfortable walking and high-arched or flat fleet. CMT is a progressive condition, and so early diagnosis and treatment through physiotherapy, walking aids and orthopedic surgery in some cases.
